21st Annual Invest Smart Caribbean Forum Kicks off on Capitol Hill, Washington DC on Thursday, November 21st

The Institute of Caribbean Studies will host the 21st Annual Invest SMART Caribbean Forum on November 21-22, 2019 in Washington, D.C.

Building on the 'Farm the Future'  initiative of the past six years, under the theme "Enabling Climate Resilient Investments in the Food-Energy-Water Nexus", this year's event will begin with a half-day Forum on Capitol Hill focused on trade, investment and development policy affecting the Caribbean.   Of special interest will be a discussion on matters arising out of the US/Strategic Engagement Act.

The two-day forum brings together a group of US-Caribbean policy makers, business leaders, Caribbean diplomatic corps, and financiers to exchange up-to- date, relevant information and discuss opportunities for delivering inclusive and sustainable growth.SMART Caribbean is the only event in the US focused on the Caribbean agribusiness ecosystem, and it is both an educational event to engage in policy dialogue, and an important venue for developing business prospects.

The Inter-American Development Bank will partner with ICS to host a half-day Forum on  Disaster Recovery, Relief and Resilience.  Some of the invited organizations for the Roundtable Forum include: CARICAD; CAIC; Overseas Private Investment Corporation and the US  Export Import Bank.

Immediately following the Invest Caribbean program of activities, the 26th annual hosting of the Caribbean American Heritage (CARAH) Awards will be held on Friday, November 22nd, 2019 at the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture.  The awards will highlight the contributions of Caribbean Americans to the United States of America.  The evening ends with a Red Carpet Dessert Soiree with dancing to Washington's leading Caribbean band, 'The Image Band',  at the JW Marriott in Washington DC.
