Tim Strauss to Become CEO of Amerijet International, Inc.

Miami, FL ‐ Amerijet International, Inc. is excited to announce that Tim Strauss will join as its Chief Executive Officer effective August 17, 2020, based at the Company’s headquarters in Miami, FL. Tim is presently responsible for Air Canada’s cargo business and brings a deep air cargo background to the position, having also worked at Northwest/Delta Cargo, Hawaiian Airlines Cargo, and Emery Worldwide. He has considerable experience in both the commercial and operational areas of the air cargo business.

July 2020 Employment Report Miami-Dade County Jobs Data

Miami, FL - In June 2020, the not seasonally adjusted unemployment rate in Miami-Dade County was 11.5 percent. The County had a reduction of 73,800 nonagricultural payroll jobs (not seasonally adjusted), from June 2019 to June 2020 which was a 6.1 percentage point decrease. However, from May 2020 to June 2020, there was an increase of 36,300 nonagricultural payroll jobs.

Amazon Comes to South Dade

MIAMI – Miami-Dade County Commissioner Dennis C. Moss is sponsoring an agreement that will go to the Board of County Commissioners at its July 8, 2020 meeting, that will sell land to Amazon in order for them to build a million square feet of warehouse space and provide 325 jobs in the Naranja area near Homestead Air Reserve Base. Amazon will make an investment of $80 million in its facilities, and the 325 permanent jobs created will provide salaries of at least $32,000. Moss has been working with the county administration on creating a logistics hub in the area for many years. Amazon will join FedEx, the Steel Mill and other projects that are being considered. Commissioner Moss stated that the South Dade area needs to stay tuned for other major announcements in the near future. The commissioner stated that he and the administration were close to finalizing a deal with Miami Wilds to build a water theme park at ZooMiami, and that the Larcenia Bullard Plaza in Richmond Heights is well under construction. Further, Moss said that there are other major projects that he is working on.

Jamaican Mangoes for New York and NE USA Markets

The Washington DC-based Jamaica Direct Distributing Company joined forces with Miami-based US importer Season Farm Fresh, Inc. and their Jamaican export partners to bring mangoes from Jamaica to the United States  --specifically,  over 4,500 pounds of St. Julian (Julie) and East Indian mangoestargeted for the New  York market.

County Selects Jonathan Daniels to Lead Port Everglades

BROWARD COUNTY, FL -  Following a national search, Broward County Administrator Bertha Henry announced that seaport and economic development leader Jonathan Daniels will be the new Chief Executive & Port Director at Port Everglades. Broward’s diverse seaport is a global gateway for cargo, cruise and petroleum that is undergoing a $1.6 billion port expansion effort.  

Commissioner Fried Advises Farmers to Prepare Coronavirus Food Assistance Program Applications

Tallahassee, Fla. – Following today’s announcement by the U.S. Department of Agriculture on the Coronavirus Food Assistance Program (CFAP), which will provide $16 billion in direct payments to support American farmers impacted by COVID-19, Agriculture Commissioner Nikki Fried is advising Florida farmers and ranchers to fill out forms in advance of applications being accepted starting May 26 through county Farm Service Agency (FSA) offices.
