FORT LAUDERDALE, Fl. – The summer is heating up as the LOOP Fort Lauderdale Beach kicked off their Second Annual Caribbean American Heritage Month Celebration, a colorful showcase of culture through food, art, music, and entertainment at Las Olas Oceanside Park, on Saturday June 1st with Haitian inspired events that spotlighted the island’s many contributions to the advancement of West Indian culture worldwide. The opening weekend’s festivities featured meet & greets with Haitian-American celebrity chef and author Chef Thia, who also signed copies of her book “50 Favorite Haitian Recipes: Taste the Islands Essentials”, as well as Haitian celebrity vegan chef Nzingah Oniwosan, who created the wildly successful “Yes Baby I Like It Raw” Instagram page. Nzingah also led an “Intro to Haitian Dance” class that delved into the enthralling world of Haitian folklore dance through rhythmic expressions and spirited movements that invited the community to discover the stories and rituals woven into each dance form.
