This year, the annual Daniel Lewis Dance Sampler, which celebrates the diversity and talent in the Florida cultural community, will showcase a carefully curated group of eight companies, featuring some of the best choreographers and dancers the region has to offer. Named for the Founding Dean of the Dance Department of New World School of the Arts (NWSA), the showcase of short works and excerpts, with one performance on Friday, October 25 and two on Saturday, October 26 at the NWSA Dance Theater, promises to be a powerful start to the South Florida dance season. dance theater

"We are excited that this year we had a state-wide open call for companies, and continue to increase the quality of the Sampler as the dance community here continues to mature," says Hannah Baumgarten, Co-Artistic Director of Dance NOW!, one of the producers and performing companies this year. The Miami Dance Sampler is produced byMiami Dance Futures, an organization founded by Lewis, which facilitates and supports dance artists and organizations. The Sampler is produced in collaboration with Dance NOW! Miami, New World School of the Arts, and the Florida Dance Education Organization whose annual national conference coincides in Miami with the performances this year. 

The full list of companies and choreographers for the Sampler are: Arts Ballet Theatre of Florida, Ballet Florida, Dance NOW! Miami, Dimensions Dance Theatre of Miami, Donna Goffredo Murray, Karen Peterson and Dancers, New World Dance Ensemble and Repertory Dance Theatre Ensemble. Each performance on Saturday only will include a pre-show discussion an hour before curtain time, moderated by the Miami Dance Hub, that gives audiences the opportunity to meet and dialogue with the choreographers and dancers from all the companies.
