Delroy Escoffery Says God Inspired Him to Stage 'The Mindset Conference'

Whenever Delroy Escoffery speaks, he invokes his Christian faith. He frequently uses the words, “The Lord instructed me to….”, showing how much the Word guides him.

The head of D’Empire Management, Escoffery said God inspired him to stage The Mindset Conference, a music business expo scheduled for Jamaica Pegasus in Kingston from May 20-22.

Although largely geared towards Christians, Escoffrey says “everybody is welcome” at the event which will see industry figures involved in workshops, a concert and awards show. Most importantly, participants get an opportunity to gather information about what can be a complicated business.

“The Bible says, ‘without knowledge the people perish’. I think who has the knowledge should share that knowledge,” said Escoffrey.

He disclosed that The Mindset Conference’s workshop will have discussions on critical areas of the music business, such as publishing, songwriting, production, management, promotion and copyright.

Those aspects have been sticky issues, particularly for Jamaican artists, since the country’s music industry took shape in the early 1960s. Three ‘Mighty Men of God’ will be honored during the concert, while the ‘From Dancehall to Church Hall’ seminar involves persons who made the transition from secular to gospel music.

Some of the acts scheduled to perform at The Mindset Conference are Travis Greene, Dr. Jackie Greene, Todd Galberth, Phil Thompson, Minister Marion Hall, Bishop Everton Thomas, Kevin Downswell, Sherwin Gardner, Rhoda Isabella, Alicia Taylor, and JohnMark Wiggan.

Born in Kingston, the South Carolina-based Escoffrey was heavily involved in dancehall music as an artist manager and show promoter, working with some of that genre’s biggest acts in the South Florida region.

Eight years ago, he accepted Christ as his savior, but maintained ties to music, working with acts including Minister Marion Hall (formerly Lady Saw) and Chevelle Franklyn.
