Rising Deejay Knavi Releases Self-Produced Song, 'Meech Out'

Success is not a word many associate with Glendevon, an enclave in the tourist mecca of Montego Bay. Rising deejay Knavi is determined to show there are exceptions.

“Meech Out is about accomplishment, no matter how small it is. Some people see having $100,000 as success, others think $1,000,0000 is a success. Whatever it is for you, yuh a meech out,” said Knavi.

An aggressive social media campaign has made Meech Out a hit in Jamaica. Knavi considers it his biggest hit to date, surpassing the triumphs of previous songs like 12 Signs, Paid in Full and Balmain Bomber.

Knavi said being raised in gritty Glendevon helped prepare him for the world after graduating from high school with strong qualifications. Strong enough for him to eye a career in the corporate world.

Because his father owned a sound system, music was always in his home. Six years ago, he made his recording debut with 12 Signs which earned him a following in Montego Bay dancehall circles.

Knavi is the latest breakout artist from that city which has produced colorful acts such as Tommy Lee Sparta, Teejay and Rygin King. With Meech Out, he has taken a big step toward bona fide stardom.

“Di fan base definitely grow, Meech Out have a different type of traction. It mek mi get more shows an’ mi on more social media platform,” he said.
