In celebration of Black History Month and the South Florida municipality of Overtown, Black Lounge Films will present a special screening of “The Great Debaters”on Feb. 8.
The film, starring Denzel Washington, will be shown at 6:30 p.m.at the Overtown Performing Arts Center (OPAC), 1074 N.W. ThirdAve. Miami.
“The Great Debaters” is an American biographical drama based on a true story revolving around the efforts of debate coach Melvin B. Tolson (Washington) at Wiley College, a historically black college, to place his team on equal footing with whites in the American South during the 1930s.
