Miami, FL - As 2019 tax season kicks off, the City of Miami is proud to once again offer free tax preparation services to City residents, in partnership with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). Beginning today, and continuing through April 16, Miami residents can take advantage of this free service by contacting City staff at any of the City’s eleven NET offices or at one of four designated “Super Sites”, which offer IRS representatives onsite.
“Doing your taxes can be a complicated – sometimes stressful – process, but getting it done right can mean valuable dollars coming back to local households in the form of tax refunds,” said City Manager Emilio T. Gonzalez. “With that in mind, we’re proud to once again offer our residents free, convenient tax preparation services throughout the community.”
The Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC), in particular, has helped low- and moderate-income Miami families to secure millions of dollars-worth of refunds. Since beginning its free tax preparation service program in 2004, the City of Miami has helped its residents to:
Collect more than $190 million in tax refunds, dollars that may not have otherwise been recouped
Complete more than 85,000 tax returns, an average of approximately 6,000 returns per year
