City of Miramar Exploring Alternatives to Staff Furloughs

MIRAMAR, FL – Today, Miramar City Manager Vernon E. Hargray issued a memorandum to the City’s Mayor, Vice Mayor and City Commissionersannouncing that he would be exploring other alternatives instead of implementing the staff furloughs, as proposed in his memorandum dated May 13, 2020.

Hargray stated that he was taking this step after further discussions with staff, union representatives, members of the City Commission and the public.

The May 13th memo detailed furloughs consisting of 8 hours per week for each full-time employee effective June 11, 2020 to December 9, 2020. Part time, as needed employees and internswould not be impacted by the proposed furlough.

The City Manager will discuss the City’s financial status during the Virtual Miramar Commission Meeting to be held on Wednesday, May 20, 2020 at 7:00 p.m.The Commission Meeting can be streamed at MiramarFL.gov/CommissionMeeting.
