MIAMI-DADE – On March 16, Commissioner Kionne L. McGhee passed a resolution through the Board of County Commissioners which calls for an increase in efforts to expand COVID-19 assistance across Miami-Dade County. The resolution requires the County Mayor to study the feasibility of procuring and using robotics to disinfect County facilities, as well as consider tracking COVID-19 reinfection rates and variant frequency using genomic testing.
The COVID-19-related resolution also directs the County Mayor to do the following:
- Launch a designated call center and texting service that would provide County residents with up-to-date information regarding COVID-19 and vaccination opportunities.
- Start a pilot program in partnership with Florida International University to utilize COVID-19 detecting canines and deploy such canines at County facilities.
- Broadcast messages regarding COVID-19 vaccinations throughout the County.
- Provide financial assistance to the Public Health Trust and direct the Trust to offer COVID-19 education and outreach campaigns to patients and County residents, where authorized by
The resolution also urges the federal and state governments to provide additional vaccine supply to Miami-Dade County.
“We need to be as creative and innovative as possible in our fight against COVID-19, including through the use of all available technologies,” Commissioner McGhee said.
