Visitors Required to Wear Masks at All Miami-Dade County Department of Solid Waste Management (DSWM) Disposal Facilities

MIAMI  —In order to protect both employees and other visitors, visitors to all Miami-Dade County Department of Solid Waste Management (DSWM) disposal facilities are now required to wear some type of face covering or mask, as defined by the CDC. The mask or face covering should cover both the wearer’s nose and mouth.

DSWM employees at disposal sites are currently required to wear masks or face coverings, to protect fellow employees and visitors to the facilities.

Facilities included in this provision are the Resources Recovery Facility; the North and South Dade Landfills; all 13 Neighborhood Trash and Recycling Centers; and the two Home Chemical Collection Centers.

While gloves are also recommended, they are not being required at this time.

Masks can be made by hand as found on several websites (example here) or store bought. The CDC recommends that N95 or surgical masks be reserved for first responders and medical professionals on the front lines of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) situation.

Residents are further reminded to dispose of used personal protective equipment (such as disposable gloves, masks and wipes) properly by placing these items inside a garbage can or plastic bag for disposal. Improper disposal of used personal protective equipment, such as dropping these items on the ground, is considered littering, which is subject to a fine of $260.
