PAHO Strengthens Genomic Surveillance in the Caribbean

PANAMA CITY, Panama – The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) says it is strengthening genomic surveillance in the Americas, including the Caribbean, as representatives from 17 public health laboratories in the region came together this week for the 26th edition of the Viral Evolution and Molecular Epidemiology (VEME) course in Panama. 

Guyana Confirms First Case of Monkeypox

GEORGETOWN, Guyana – Guyana on Monday became the latest CARICOM country to confirm a case of the Monkeypox virus with health officials saying that the patient is hospitalized in a stable condition.

PAHO Releases New Report on the Fight Against Tobacco Use in the Americas

BRASILA, Brazil – The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) Monday said an estimated 900 million people, or 96 percent of the population of the 35 countries of the Americas, including the Caribbean, are currently protected by at least one of the six tobacco control measures recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO).

2,000 Doses of Monkeypox Vaccine Ordered for Trinidad and Tobago

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad – Although Trinidad and Tobago has so far not recorded any cases of monkeypox, the twin-island nation has ordered 2,000 doses of vaccine to fight the virus from the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), Minister of Health Terrence Deyalsingh disclosed on Wednesday.
