MIAMI-DADE – Miami-Dade County Commission Chairwoman Audrey M. Edmonson teamed up with Farm Share to feed about 500 families at a drive-through food distribution at the Caleb Center on April 30.
Residents financially impacted by the COVID-19 state of emergency drove through the center’s parking lot with their trunks popped open to receive bags or boxes of food including frozen beef, canned goods, bread, cheese, orange juice, fresh fruit, raisins and baked goods.
Chairwoman Edmonson and her staff were joined in the distribution effort by volunteers from a host of organizations including Miami Power House Church, the Circle of Brotherhood, the Black Treatment Advocates Network of Miami-Dade, Blessing Hands, Liberty Square, The Links, Inc. and others.
Before the event’s 9 a.m. opening, the line of cars stretched for over 15 blocks for the opportunity to receive much-needed provisions.
“As we can see from the amount of cars, there’s a dire need in this county for food,” Chairwoman Edmonson said. “What we’re doing is ensuring that people in District 3 have enough to eat. We’ll be doing this once a week until the governor and the mayor lift the state of emergency.”
