M-DCPS, UTD Reach Tentative Agreement
Last night, Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS) and the United Teachers of Dade (UTD) reached a Tentative Agreement that recognizes the high-quality work of educators and demonstrates the District’s commitment to rewarding and maintaining a highly skilled workforce. As part of the package, teachers and other school employees will be able to maintain 100 percent employer-funded health insurance.
The District is utilizing the voter-approved Secure Our Future Referendum and the Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER) and Teacher Salary Increase Allocation (TSIA) funds to compensate UTD members through this unprecedented time.
“By joining with UTD and the legislature, we will ensure that teachers will be compensated competitively for their continued and long-term service to our students,” said Schools Superintendent Alberto M. Carvalho. "Through the supportive leadership of our School Board, we recognize the increased challenges and responsibilities instructional and support employees face as they prioritize the District’s primary goal of increasing student achievement particularly during this unprecedented year.”
The agreement identifies multiple opportunities, more than ever before, for all employees to earn additional dollars for training and other support, including Exceptional Student Education teachers, those who are dedicated to improving student literacy, and all educational support personnel. Moreover, the agreement supports the ongoing use of the District’s electronic sign-in application.
“On behalf of my fellow Board Members, I would like to congratulate everyone involved in assuring that our teachers receive the compensation and recognition they so justly deserve for the additional demands, as well as the sacrifices they have made and continue to make,” said School Board Chair Perla Tabares Hantman.
