MIAMI  — A new $5.4 million aquatic complex is set to open at South Dade Park, located at 28151 SW 164 Ave., Miami. The facility features a new multipurpose competitive/recreational swimming pool with zero-depth entry, eight 25-yard lap lanes and a water slide tower plus remodeled pool buildings.

“This new aquatic complex is going to be a favorite family gathering spot in South Dade,” said Commissioner Levine Cava. “Here residents and their children can enjoy healthy, safe pool recreation, with exciting options that include Learn2Swim, water exercise classes, and splash and play activities! And, as the summer approaches, this pool will certainly help everyone escape the heat. However, I urge parents, before they let their children step into the water, make sure they know how to swim. If they haven’t had swim lessons, please sign them up today.”

“I am so pleased to see the new South Dade Park Aquatic Center and Helen Sands Pool open for business. What a great addition this is to this park,” said Maria I. Nardi, Miami-Dade Parks Director. “Miami-Dade Parks is working to develop more top-grade pool facilities like this throughout the parks system as part of its community-wide efforts to get every child water ready, with swim lessons.”

Miami-Dade Parks Design and Build Team completed the project in conjunction with architectural and engineering consultants Forbes Architects, Witkin Hults Design Group, EAC Consulting, Inc., TLC Engineers, Counsilman-Hunsaker and construction contractor Lunacon Construction Group Corp.

Funding was provided by the “Building Better Communities” General Obligation Bond (BBC-GOB) Program, Impact Fees and the Quality Neighborhood Improvement Program.Webp.net resizeimage 39

The 8.61-acre park also features tennis and basketball courts, a playground, a fitness zone, a skate park and a walkway. Miami-Dade Parks Fit2Play™ after-school and out-of-school/seasonal camps for kids and the Active Older Adults program are also offered at this site. Facility rentals are also available.
