KINGSTON, Jamaica – The musical fraternity in Jamaica and around the world is mourning the death of Desi Jones, one of the country’s pre-eminent musicians of the last half century,
It’s reported that Jones who was found unresponsive at home on Saturday, was rushed to hospital where he was pronounced dead. He was 65
Jones first came to national and international prominence with the group, Chalice, he later formed the band, Skool, played with many renowned Jamaican recording artistes, and wrote the instructional book, The Art of Reggae Drumming.
He also toured extensively recording with Jimmy Cliff, Barrington Levy, Mutabaruka Marcia Griffiths and Monty Alexander.
In 2019, Jones received the Order of Distinction in the Rank of Officer for his contribution to the development of Jamaican music in the genres of jazz, show music, and reggae.
