MIAMI, FL – Today, U.S. Rep. Debbie Mucarsel-Powell (FL-26), member of the Judiciary Committee and first South American-born member of Congress, met with representatives of the Association of Venezuelan Mothers & Women Abroad (AMAVEX), the Organization of Persecuted Venezuelan Politicians in Exile (VEPPEX), and leaders of the Venezuelan community in Florida to honor Mucarsel-Powell’s “unconditional and continuous support of the Venezuelan people” by fighting for the Judiciary Committee to approve temporary protected status (TPS) for Venezuelans currently residing in the United States.
“It’s incredibly emotional to receive this recognition from South Florida’s Venezuelan community because it is a reminder of who and what we’re fighting for every day in Congress,” said Mucarsel-Powell. “Our brothers and sisters in Venezuela have been suffering under Maduro’s brutal narco-regime, desperately trying to find even the most basic necessities, like food, water, and medicine, and simultaneously trying to restore freedom and democracy to Venezuela. This is the exact situation TPS was designed for. We could not make as much progress as we have in Congress without the support from the Venezuelan community in Florida.”
