JUPITER, FL - The following is a statement from former U.S. Navy Lt. Commander and Congressional candidate Pam Keith in Florida’s 18th District, on news that President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump have tested positive for the coronavirus:
“Last night, the President and the First Lady joined the more than 7 million Americans who have contracted the coronavirus. I wish them a speedy recovery. They are lucky to have some of the best doctors in the country providing top-tier medical care.
“I hope this moment is a wake-up call to the President and his party: the coronavirus presents a clear and present danger to our country and we cannot keep treating it like it will magically go away. This pandemic requires aggressive action. If even the President of the United States can contract the virus, no one is safe from it – particularly not the Black and brown communities where the virus is hitting hardest.”
“My opponent, Rep. Brian Mast, has said if he were to grade President Trump’s response to the Coronavirus, he’d give it an A. If the more than 207,000 Americans and 13,000 Floridians who have lost their lives to this virus weren’t enough of a sign that President Trump’s response has been lacking, I hope this is. We need leaders in office who are going to follow the science, promote wearing masks and social distancing, and focus on re-opening safely, not on re-opening quickly.”
“If elected, I will make passing COVID-19 relief legislation a top priority. Any American lives lost to this pandemic are too many.”
