Fury FC Rounds up Staff Team With Less Than 30 Days to go Until Season Opener

OTTAWA - With the 2019 USL Championship season-opening kickoff less than 30 days away, Ottawa Fury FC confirmed the last piece of its staffing puzzle on Tuesday with the hiring of a new goalkeeper coach, Carlos Lima.

Lima comes to Fury FC having built a successful goalkeeping coaching consultant business that has seen him work with over 120 goalkeepers around the world. He has also been involved in goalkeeping equipment manufacturing and is the founder of the charitable organization The Soccer Ball Project.

Fury FC has also brought in new support staff this season, all critical to the team’s success:

Nic Mossop has been hired as equipment manager. A graduate of the Fitness and Health Promotion program at Algonquin College, he previously served as equipment assistant with the Ottawa REDBLACKS. He had also been an intern with Fury FC in 2016.

Adrian Huynh will serve as Fury FC’s head athletic therapist. Having completed his Athletic Therapy degree at Sheridan College, he has experience working with athletes from his time at Ryerson University, Ontario Basketball and Carleton University. Through his student placements, he also worked with basketball, volleyball and football organizations, including stints with Canada Basketball and Raptors 905.

Michael Garcia will work as an assistant athletic therapist and strength and conditioning coach for the season. Garcia graduated from Sheridan College before working with the Mississauga Warriors Football Club and the BC Lions of the CFL. His student placements also brought him to work with the Toronto Argonauts, Vancouver Whitecaps 2 FC and the University of Toronto and Sheridan College varsity programs.

These new additions round up a dynamic and professional group of specialists that will work closely with Head Coach Nikola Popovic to put an entertaining Fury FC team on the field. Popovic will also be able to rely on his assistant coach, Canadian Victor Oppong, who has renewed his contract and will be back with Fury FC for a third season.

Ottawa Fury FC will kick off its 2019 USL Championship season on Saturday, March 9 as it travels to face the Charleston Battery. Fury FC will open its 2019 home schedule on Saturday, April 6 when Nashville SC visits TD Place.
