Fury FC Wal Fall’s Goal Earns Him Spot in 18-Player Selection of the Week

OTTAWA - Ottawa Fury FC midfielder Wal Fall was voted to the USL Championship Team of the Week bench for Week 19 of the 2019 season, the league announced Tuesday. Fall scored Ottawa’s lone goal on Sunday against two-time defending champions Louisville City FC, converting from the penalty spot, his sixth goal of the season, and recording three key passes, as well as winning 12 of 15 duels.

falPhoto: Steve Kingsman / Freestyle PhotographyA staple in Fury FC’s midfield and a master at effortlessly controlling play for his side, he has featured in 16 USL Championship matches so far this season, totalling over 1,350 minutes of play and contributing six goals and two assists. Sunday’s match against Louisville City FC also marked his 245th game played in his career.

Ottawa is back in action on Saturday at TD Place as it hosts Fury FC’s Head Coach Nikola Popovic’s former club, Swope Park Rangers (KO 7 p.m.). Fury FC will look to capitalize on a more favourable schedule which starts with this Saturday’s edition of the Patio Party. Tickets to the game are still available at OttawaFuryFC.com.

USL Championship Team of the WeekGK – CJ Cochran, Fresno FC: Cochran recorded seven saves as the Foxes earned their fourth consecutive victory with a 2-1 win against New Mexico United at Chukchansi Park.

D – Jordan Burt, Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC: Burt won 7 of 8 duels, made six recoveries, won two tackles and completed 35 of 47 passes to help the Switchbacks earn a shutout victory against Tulsa Roughnecks FC.

D – Juan Barahona, Sacramento Republic FC: Barahona completed 21 of 28 passes, had three chances created and recorded the assist on Republic FC’s game-winning goal against the Portland Timbers 2.

D – Sean McFarlane, Austin Bold FC: McFarlane had one goal, two key passes and completed 4 of 6 dribbles and 27 of 34 passes while winning 6 of 9 duels in Austin’s win against Orange County SC.

M – Jared Stroud, New York Red Bulls II: Stroud recorded four goals, one assist and six key passes over two games as the Red Bulls II recorded victories against Bethlehem Steel FC and ATL UTD 2.

M – Danny Barrera, Hartford Athletic: Barrera recorded both assists and finished with seven key passes to help Hartford Athletic to a 2-1 victory against Indy Eleven in the club’s first contest at Dillon Stadium.

M – Chris Lema, New York Red Bulls II: Lema recorded the first four-goal game of the season while also winning 4 of 5 tackles and recording eight recoveries in an 8-1 win against ATL UTD 2.

M – Enzo Martinez, Charlotte Independence: Martinez scored what proved to be the game-winner against Saint Louis FC while recording four shots, completing 27 of 37 passes and winning 10 of 15 duels.

F – Adam Jahn, Phoenix Rising FC: Jahn scored his 10th goal of the season and completed 15 of 21 passes to lead Rising FC past Rio Grande Valley FC in its ninth consecutive victory.

F – Douglas Martinez, Real Monarchs SLC: Martinez recorded the first hat trick in the Monarchs’ history to lead the club to its fifth consecutive victory in a 5-0 win against Tacoma Defiance.

F – Brian Wright, Birmingham Legion FC: Wright scored the late game-winner after coming on as a first-half substitute in addition to winning 4 of 6 duels and recording three shots on goal and one key pass.
