In August 2019, Miami-Dade County area was the second largest metro area in year-over-the-year job gains in Florida, following the Orlando-Kissi­­mmee-Sanford area. The County created 28,500 new non-agricultural payroll jobs (not seasonally adjusted), from August 2018 to August 2019 which was a 2.4 percent increase. The highest job creation occurred in Education & Health Services (11,100), with most jobs created in the healthcare industry. Job creation also occurred in Professional & Business Services (5,600), Transportation, Warehousing & Utilities (4,800), Construction (2,300), Leisure and Hospitality (2,200), Other Services (1,900), Wholesale Trade (1,100), Manufacturing (400), and Total Government (400). Between July 2019 and August 2019, Total Government added 11,700 new jobs. This is the result of Miami-Dade County Public Schools starting its academic year and therefore rehiring teachers and staff. The graphs below show the payroll data since October 2017.

Low-cost carrier Frontier announced today that in November it will expand its schedule at Miami International Airport by a total of 28 weekly flights and six additional routes, bringing its total weekly departures to 57. Its new Miami schedule will include three weekly flights to Hartford/Springfield and three weekly flights to San Juan beginning November 14, in addition to four weekly flights to Boston starting November 15 – three first-time routes by Frontier from MIA. Frontier will also launch four daily flights to Detroit starting November 15, as well as bring back daily service to New York LaGuardia and Chicago O’Hare on November 14.

MIAMI – After decades of decline, manufacturing employment in Miami-Dade County is showing signs of a comeback, increasing 14.5 percent from 35,738 workers in 2012 to more than 40,800 in 2017, according to a new report from FIU.

The jobs were created in different industries with the highest job creation occurring in Education & Health Services (9,400), Leisure and Hospitality (5,400), Transportation, Warehousing & Utilities (4,800), Construction (3,400), Professional & Business Services (1,600), Other Services (1,400), Information (400) and Wholesale Trade (400). MIAMI —On Tuesday, June 4, 2019, the Miami-Dade County Board of County Commissioners adopted a new capital improvement program at Miami International Airport that will fund up to $5 billion in airport-wide modernization projects over the next five to 15 years, paving the way for future growth in passenger and cargo traffic at MIA - projected to reach 77 million travelers and more than four million tons of freight by the year 2040.
