Grange Pays Tribute to the Rt. Excellent Samuel Sharpe on the 188th Anniversary of His Death

Please see below photos and captions regarding the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission’s (JCDC) hosting of a Gathering in Memory of the Rt. Excellent Samuel Sharpe, National Hero, on Saturday, May 23 at the National Heroes Park in Kingston.The somber event was held in commemoration of the 188th Anniversary of his death. Sam Sharpe led the 1831 Christmas Rebellion in Jamaica, which broke the back of chattel slavery in Jamaica and eventually led to the abolition of slavery and the emancipation of slaves in Jamaica and the wider Western Hemisphere.

Caravans of Protesters Call on States, Federal Government to Release Community Members in Jail and Prison to Decrease Exposure to COVID-19

WASHINGTON, D.C., – Family members and activists continue to advocate for community members in jail, detention centers and prisons around the country to be released. In Washington, D.C., California, Georgia, and Kentucky, loved ones and community members have taken to leaving their safe havens to join car rallies in an effort to safely protest and demand policymakers #FreeThemAll. The protests continue today -- Freedom Friday -- as grassroots organizations, Puente Human Rights Movement in Arizona, and New Florida Majority, demand jails, detention centers, and prisons provide adequate health care and -- most important -- release people in detention. 

County Expands COVID-19 Testing Program

BROWARD COUNTY –  Broward County, the Florida Department of Health in Broward (FDOH-Broward), American Medical Response (AMR) and Century Ambulance Services (CAS) are set to launch on Wednesday, May 6, a new mobile/in-home testing program that continues our efforts to increase the number of COVID-19 tests that health professionals are able to administer to our residents.
