Demings, Colleagues Urge DHS to Halt Deportations to Haiti, Support Diaspora Following Earthquake

ORLANDO, FL – Today, U.S. Rep. Val Demings (FL-10), Co-Chair of the House Haiti Caucus, joined 55 of her colleagues to call on the Biden Administration to immediately halt deportations to Haiti and take urgent action to address the concerns of the Haitian Diaspora after a 7.2 magnitude earthquake devastated Haiti last month. The lawmakers’ letter follows the Administration’s resumption of deportation flights to Haiti and as thousands of Haitian migrants continue to await an opportunity to make an asylum claim at the border.

Haitian Prosecutor Wants Charges Laid Against PM Henry

PORT AU PRINCE, Haiti – Haiti’s chaotic political environment took another turn on Tuesday after the country’s chief prosecutor asked a judge investigating the July 7 assassination of President Jovenel Moise to charge Prime Minister Ariel Henry with involvement in the case over alleged phone calls he made to the main suspect.

State Representatives Kevin Chambliss & Scott Plakon Announce Their Submission of the Bipartisan Occupational Licensing Bill (HB 87)

Miami, FL –“Today, the Office of State Representative Kevin Chamblissis proud to announce that it has reintroduced a bipartisan bill that seeks to change the occupational licensing application process. This is the first bill that the office has filed this session. The bill revises the period of time when conviction, or any other adjudication, for crime may not be grounds for denial of licensure in specified professions; provides exception; removes provision requiring “good moral character” for licensure of such professions; and requires the applicable board to approve certain education program credits offered to inmates in certain correctional institutions or facilities to satisfy training requirements for licensure in specified professions.
