Renowned Professor of Economics to Deliver CDB’s 2021 William G. Demas Lecture

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados – Small Islands Developing States (SIDS) will be encouraged to rethink their approach to innovation in order to build more resilient economies when world renowned Professor of Economics and Innovation, Mariana Mazzucato  delivers the 2021 William G. Demas Lecture on June 15, to start the Caribbean Development Bank’s (CDB) 51st Annual Meeting.

March 8 was commemorated as International Women’s Day (IWD) with the theme “Women in Leadership: Achieving an Equal Future in a COVID-19 World”. At the multilateral level, the three international trade organizations, the World Trade Organization (WTO), the International Trade Centre (ITC); and the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) are currently headed by women, one from the CARICOM region.

Boston Based Authentic Caribbean Foundation Honors Diaspora Achievers For Black History Month

Boston/CMMInc…The Authentic Caribbean Foundation (ACF) will this weekend honor several Caribbean Diaspora Community members as part of Black History Month Celebrations. The Afro Caribbean Gala and Award will recognize Diaspora achievers who, through their work and community involvement, have demonstrated leadership and excellence. The star-studded virtual event will take place Saturday February 20, 2021 at 6pm and will be streamed live on various platforms, including the Authen Caribe Facebook Page as well as on its Instagram Page, Authentic Foundation.

Miami-Dade Chamber of Commerce Celebrating Black “Herstory” Month -Chamber to Host a Virtual Conversation with Local Icons on February 18th

MIAMI, Fla. – The Miami-Dade Chamber of Commerce will celebrate Black “Herstory” Month by hosting a conversation with some of the local icons who blazed the trail fighting to level the playing field.   The virtual event, hosted on Zoom and Facebook Live, will take place on Thursday, February 18, 2021 at 4 PM. The event is presented in part by Baptist Health South Florida.

LLD.

Women Welcome VP Harris With Caution

On January 20, 2021 Kamala Harris will be sworn in as the Vice President of the United States of America, marking a momentous event in the country’s history as the highest ranking female in US politics. As a Black American, Caribbean, and Asian woman, Harris represents the hopes and aspirations of all minority and ethnic women across the world. Although most welcome Harris’ meteoric rise, many are guarded in how they see her ability to make lasting change in a racially and politically divided nation. Three ‘voices’ representing Caribbean, Indian, and Latino heritage speak volumes about the impact the former California Senator has already had and will continue to have on women of colour.
