The City of Miramar Celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month With Exciting Events for the Entire Family

MIRAMAR, FL  – According the latest census, Hispanics make up over 37% of the Miramar population and a third of the City of Miramar’s Hispanic residents are native born. The Hispanic culture and music is alive and on display and the City is proud to share the many activities and events planned for Hispanic Heritage month to celebrate with all residents September 15th through October 15th.

Bahamas Relief Efforts from FPL

Florida Power & Light Company (FPL) provides more than 35,000 gallons of water to aid the Bahamian people after a news conference held at the company’s Command Center in Riviera Beach, Fla., Sept. 10, 2019. In addition to the water, the company’s foundation donated $100,000 to the Red Cross to aid the Bahamas and will match dollar-for-dollar all donations made by employees. Caribbean Radio Shows Move to 1210 the Man, September 7

Miami, FL - Beginning on Saturday, September 7, Caribbean Saturdays will be aired on WNMA 1210 AM, The Man from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm. The popular block of radio programs, targeting South Florida's Caribbean community will no longer be aired on WZAB 880 AM due to the sale of the station.

Miami-Dade County Promises Relief to Bahamas Following Hurricane Dorian

MIAMI – County Commission Chairwoman Audrey M. Edmonson joined Mayor Carlos Gimenez and her colleagues at a press conference and meeting with Linda Mackey, Consul-General of the Commonwealth of the Bahamas, on Sept. 3 to coordinate relief efforts from Miami-Dade County and appeal to residents for donations to help the storm-battered island nation recover from the devastation caused by Hurricane Dorian.

County Continues to Monitor Hurricane Dorian

BROWARD COUNTY, FL - Broward County Emergency Operations Center (EOC) activated at 9AM this morning, Friday, August 30, in response to Hurricane Dorian. All of Florida is under a state of emergency declared by Governor Ron DeSantis. Broward County will declare a local state of emergency Friday afternoon.

Miramar Police Department Get Body Cameras

Miramar, FL On March 27, 2019 the Commissioner Alexandra P.  Davis made a motion to implement a body-worn camera program for the Miramar Police Department (the “Department’). The motioned was seconded and a majority vote led to the long-awaited body camera program becoming law in the City of Miramar. The body camera program was first proposed by Commissioner Alexandra P. Davis back in 2014, with petitions being signed subsequent to this, but though a study was conducted the program never came to fruition.
