Students Weigh Future Careers Upon Completing Commissioner Barbara J. Jordan’s Internship Program

MIAMI-DADE – Nazario Saint Louis, a 19-year-old junior at Georgetown University studying international economics, was undecided about his future career path. But that all changed after his experience working for lobbying and consulting firm Floridian Partners as part of Commissioner Barbara J. Jordan’s Summer Youth Internship Initiative (SYII) internship. Working side by side with lobbyists, he learned the inner workings of the relationship between local government and private enterprises.

Commissioner Jordan Gives Away Over 525 Book Bags

MIAMI-DADE – Miami-Dade County Commissioner Barbara J. Jordan, Signature Flight Support, the Miami Dolphins, Atlantic Aviation, Walmart, Target, and Miami International Airport teamed up to give away well over 525 book bags and school supplies such as pencils, erasers, sharpeners, composition books, notebook paper and three-ring pocket folders to children in need in District 1.

School of Education Offers Accelerated Program for Teacher Certification

In the next five years, 145,000 teachers will be needed to meet the nation’s critical shortfall.  The School of Education’s Center for Professional Development has taken a proactive approach to resolving the shortage locally with initiatives to streamline the process of getting highly qualified educators into area classrooms.

Schools in Western Jamaica Better Prepared for Medical Emergencies!

New York/CMM….Some 70 staff of High Schools in Western Jamaica were trained in Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and 20 schools presented with Automated External Defibrillators (AEDS) and First Aid Kits as part of Team Jamaica Bickle (TJB) “Defibrillator to Schools Program,” on Tuesday, July 16, 2019, in a Presentation and Training Ceremony held at the S Hotel located on Jimmy Cliff Blvd in Montego Bay.

City of Miami Announces Eduardo J. Padrón Completion Scholarship Fund to Support Miami Dade College Students

Miami, FL – City of Miami Mayor Francis Suarez and City Manager Dr. Emilio T. Gonzalez announced today a gift of $50,000 to create the Eduardo J. Padrón Completion Scholarship Fund to support Miami Dade College students who are close to completing their degrees or certificate programs. The fund will be awarded to 50 students this year in time for MDC’s upcoming giving day I AM MDC Day on Friday, Sept. 6th.

Miami Dade College North Campus Hosts 5000 Role Models Early College Experience

Miami,– Miami Dade College (MDC) North Campus is hosting a week-long college immersion program for members of the 5000 Role Models of Excellence Program from July 15-19.  Sixth through eighth grade students from several Miami-Dade County Public Schools will participate in the program, which concludes with an awards ceremony to highlight the completion of the week. 

Schools in Western Jamaica Set to Receive Defibrillators!

New York/CMM…..Twenty more Jamaican High Schools will receive Automated External Defibrillators (AEDS), and First Aid Kits from Team Jamaica Bickle (TJB) as part of its annual “Defibrillator to Schools Program,” in a presentation and training ceremony that will take place on Tuesday, July 16, 2019 (9:00am-2:00pm) at the S Hotel located on Jimmy Cliff Boulevard in Montego Bay. A second presentation is being planned for later on in the year in keeping with TJB's mission to donate a minimum of 25 units to mark its 25th anniversary.

Miami Dade College’s Medical Campus to Open State-of-the-Art Center for Innovation, Learning and Simulation

Miami,- Miami Dade College (MDC) will open its brand-new Center for Innovation, Learning and Simulation, a state-of-the-art facility designed to provide students with the training needed to excel in today’s fast-changing health care industry.  The ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, July 16, at the Medical Campus in the heart of Miami’s Health District.

MDC Opens Cloud Computing Center Only Venue of its Kind in Florida, Center Will Provide Degrees and Credentials in Enterprise Cloud Computing

MDC has opened a state-of-the-art Cloud Computing Center in order to address the ever-increasing demand for experienced cloud technology professionals. Located at the Eduardo J. Padrón Campus, the Center is the only venue of its kind in Florida. The Center will offer the only College Credit Certificate and Associate of Science degree in Enterprise Cloud Computing in Florida. In collaboration with Amazon Web Services, Generation and Microsoft, the Center will allow technology leaders and industry experts to engage with students to learn about leading cloud platforms and receive industry certifications.
