Young Woman Achiever Scholarships Awarded by the Commission for Women

MIAMI – The Miami-Dade County Commission for Women presented its fifth annual “Young Woman Achiever” scholarships to three outstanding graduates from the Young Women’s Preparatory Academy. The $1,000 scholarships were awarded to Melanie Cardenas, Emilia Mendez, and Aisha Tahir at the June 18 meeting of the Board of County Commissioners. Cardenas will be attending Florida International University, Mendez will be attending the Honors College at Miami-Dade College, and Tahir will be attending New York University. Funding for the scholarships was generously donated by the following sponsors: County Commission Chairwoman Audrey Edmonson, Commissioner Jean Monestime, Commissioner Eileen Higgins, Commissioner Joe Martinez, and Commissioner Jose “Pepe” Diaz.

Miami Dade College’s Eduardo J. Padrón Campus to Launch Cutting-Edge Cloud Computing Center

Miami, – To address the ever-increasing demand for experienced cloud technology professionals, Miami Dade College (MDC) will open a state-of-the-art Cloud Computing Center at the Eduardo J. Padrón Campus.  As the only venue of its kind in Florida, the Center will allow technology leaders, industry experts and students to engage and learn about leading cloud platforms and receive industry certifications, in collaboration with Amazon Web Services, Generation and Microsoft.  The launch of the Center, including a ribbon-cutting ceremony, facility tour and demonstration activities, will take place on Thursday, June 27, at 5:30 p.m.

M-DCPS Honors Outstanding Principal, Assistant Principal of the Year

Miguel Veloso, who serves as principal of Miami Springs Adult Education Center, won top honors as the District’s Principal of the Year. Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS) honored its finest principals and assistant principals at an awards ceremony sponsored by the Dade Association of School Administrators (DASA), recently at DoubleTree by Hilton.

University of Miami and Miami Dade College Enter into Articulation Agreement

MIAMI, – In a signing ceremony held today at Miami Dade College’s Wolfson Campus, the University of Miami and Miami Dade College (MDC) formally executed an articulation agreement that serves to provide guidelines and assist students in the transferability of coursework from MDC to majors within the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Miami (UM).

Duerk, UM’s executive vice president for academic affairs and provost, signed the 10-year agreement that serves to provide guidelines and assist students in the transferability of coursework from MDC to majors within the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Miami (UM).

Over 13,000 MDC Students Will Graduate on May 4

With high hopes for bright personal and professional futures, more than 13,000 graduates from Miami Dade College’s eight campuses will make the momentous walk across the stage with diplomas and credentials in hand at five commencement ceremonies on Saturday, May 4. MDC’s President Dr. Eduardo J. Padrón will preside over his final commencement before stepping down as president in August, after 50 years at the College, nearly 25 as president. 

Miami Dade College and Pan Am Signed Agreement Monday to Train Next Generation of Aviation Professionals

As part of a unique partnership, students enrolled in certain aviation courses offered by MDC will receive supplemental training provided by Pan Am International Flight Academy, including the establishment of a Pan Am Career Pilot Academy at Miami Executive Airport to conduct a professional flight training program for MDC students.  Qualified students may also pursue job opportunities to become flight instructors for the Pan Am Career Pilot Academy while they complete their degree program at MDC. Pan Am will also offer additional training courses at other Pan Am facilities, that seek to provide a greater value to students’ career paths.

FIU Female Engineering Graduates Break Barriers, Change Lives

MIAMI – FIU will hold 10 commencement ceremonies from April 28, 2019 – May 1, 2019 to celebrate the achievements of more than 5,000 students who are earning degrees this spring. For the first time ever, FIU is recognizing nine Worlds Ahead female graduates in engineering that are at the cutting edge of their fields.

Miami Dade College Honors College Dean Selected as Aspen Presidential Fellow

Miami, – Miami Dade College’s (MDC) Honors College Dean Dr. Pascale Charlot has been selected by the Aspen Institute’s College Excellence Program to join the 2019-2020 class of the Aspen Presidential Fellowship for Community College Excellence, a leadership program aimed at preparing the next generation of community college presidents to transform institutions to achieve higher and more equitable levels of student success, both in college and in the labor market.
