KINGSTON, JAMAICA, Two undergraduate students, 20-year-old Kayla Jessup, and 19-year-old Tarik Graham, will travel to the Caribbean island, Jamaica, this summer to participate in a five-week professional and cultural internship program, hosted by GraceKennedy Limited from June 28 to August 7.

MIAMI – The Miami-Dade County Commission for Women presented its fifth annual “Young Woman Achiever” scholarships to three outstanding graduates from the Young Women’s Preparatory Academy. The $1,000 scholarships were awarded to Melanie Cardenas, Emilia Mendez, and Aisha Tahir at the June 18 meeting of the Board of County Commissioners. Cardenas will be attending Florida International University, Mendez will be attending the Honors College at Miami-Dade College, and Tahir will be attending New York University. Funding for the scholarships was generously donated by the following sponsors: County Commission Chairwoman Audrey Edmonson, Commissioner Jean Monestime, Commissioner Eileen Higgins, Commissioner Joe Martinez, and Commissioner Jose “Pepe” Diaz.
Miami, – To address the ever-increasing demand for experienced cloud technology professionals, Miami Dade College (MDC) will open a state-of-the-art Cloud Computing Center at the Eduardo J. Padrón Campus. As the only venue of its kind in Florida, the Center will allow technology leaders, industry experts and students to engage and learn about leading cloud platforms and receive industry certifications, in collaboration with Amazon Web Services, Generation and Microsoft. The launch of the Center, including a ribbon-cutting ceremony, facility tour and demonstration activities, will take place on Thursday, June 27, at 5:30 p.m.

Graduates showed their commitment to giving back by wearing their alumni stoles at MDC’s commencement ceremonies on Saturday, May 4th.

MIAMI, – In a signing ceremony held today at Miami Dade College’s Wolfson Campus, the University of Miami and Miami Dade College (MDC) formally executed an articulation agreement that serves to provide guidelines and assist students in the transferability of coursework from MDC to majors within the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Miami (UM).
With high hopes for bright personal and professional futures, more than 13,000 graduates from Miami Dade College’s eight campuses will make the momentous walk across the stage with diplomas and credentials in hand at five commencement ceremonies on Saturday, May 4. MDC’s President Dr. Eduardo J. Padrón will preside over his final commencement before stepping down as president in August, after 50 years at the College, nearly 25 as president.
As part of a unique partnership, students enrolled in certain aviation courses offered by MDC will receive supplemental training provided by Pan Am International Flight Academy, including the establishment of a Pan Am Career Pilot Academy at Miami Executive Airport to conduct a professional flight training program for MDC students. Qualified students may also pursue job opportunities to become flight instructors for the Pan Am Career Pilot Academy while they complete their degree program at MDC. Pan Am will also offer additional training courses at other Pan Am facilities, that seek to provide a greater value to students’ career paths.
