WASHINGTON, DC – Today, U.S. Rep. Debbie Mucarsel-Powell (FL-26), member of the Hispanic Caucus Education & Labor Task Force, and U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan (OH-13) introduced the Social and Emotional Learning for Families (SELF) Act (H.R. 4626). The bill authorizes a competitive grant program to increase the capacity of teachers and school leaders to work with families to develop and support the social and emotional skills, habits, and mindsets of children.

Senators Warren and Booker, Rep. Deutch Call for Greater Oversight of Private Prisoner Transport Companies

Boston, MA - United States Senators Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) and Cory Booker (D-N.J.) and U.S. Representative Ted Deutch (D-Fla.) last week sent a letter to Michael E. Horowitz, Inspector General (IG) of the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) requesting that the IG conduct an audit of the private prisoner transportation industry and evaluate whether DOJ is conducting sufficient oversight of for-profit prisoner transport companies to ensure that they are complying with federal law and regulations.

Florida Dems Blast Florida Attorney General on Assault Weapons

Tallahassee, Fl----Attorney General Ashley Moody’s is not telling the truth about a 2020 proposed constitutional amendment that prevents the possession of assault weapons, according to Florida Democrats and gun safety advocates. Moody, in her effort to keep the initiative off the ballot says, the ballot language is “clearly and conclusively defective.” The Florida Democratic Party, Representative Cindy Polo (D-103), the Florida Coalition to Prevent Gun Violence and March for Our lives told capital reporters that Moody was not telling the truth about the proposal.

Debbie Mucarsel-Powell (FL-26), member of the New Democrat Coalition Climate Change Task Force, praised House passage of the Protecting and Securing Florida's Coastline Act (H.R. 205), which blocks new offshore drilling in the Eastern Gulf of Mexico and the Straits of Florida, and the Coastal and Marine Economies Protection Act (H.R. 1941), which blocks new offshore drilling along the Atlantic and Pacific coastlines.
